Last Saturday I was invited for the inauguration of Patna’s first media academy. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in media related fields.
The campus which is situated on Bailey road looked quite impressive and while I could not see the State-of-the-art studio , I believe it is quite well equipped. It is an arm of Advantage Group which is one of the oldest media institutions in India.
They had quite an impressive gathering of professionals from the media field and they promise to impart quality education at the center.

The Chief Minister spoke quite well at the inauguration. Whenever I hear him speak, I think that he is one of the very few class of politicians who actually have vision and have the welfare of the masses in their heart .

You can learn more about the institute at their website  here.

3g

I today saw a demo of BSNL 3G services in Patna and while I could only test the video calling feature, I was quite impressed. The picture quality was quite good and video was smooth , not jerky.
Currently, 2g to 3g migration is not available according to the Customer Representative there so you cannot get it on your existing number. You have to buy a new SIM card. 3G prepaid sim will be available from the 6th here and postpaid sim a  week or so later.

He also told me that in another 20-25 days 2g to 3g migration will be available so you can get 3G on your existing number. For a FAQ, see here.

I know I have written about this before but now I have seen the invitation cards and it is being finally inaugurated on the 14th and the first movie shown will be from the 16th Jan, “Chandni Chowk to China”.

It promises to bring a new movie going experience to Bihar. Here’s to hoping it comes true in full.

A very important metric for measuring the “livability” of any city is the number of parks it has. And it is here that I think Patna is most lacking. While the Botanical Garden is a beautiful place for morning walkers and joggers, there are hardly any other parks where one can go for getting fresh air and escaping the chaotic traffic. All that may change soon as the state govt. has promised to make Patna the city of Parks. Even if they can fulfill 20% of that promise, the people of Patna will be very grateful. full story here

oriental-bouquet

Some time back Ferns & Petals opened their outlet in Patna  in Boring road opposite Hira Panna. I have gone there a few times and the variety of flowers it has is better that the other florists and the rates are more reasonable too. They also have a fair collection of dry flowers . To me dry flowers don’t make sense because the whole point of flowers is their fragrance and freshness but Different strokes for different folks…

As Patna gears up for the festival of Chatt, the cleanliness in the city has to be seen to be believed. The place is squeaky clean and one would be hard put to find a piece of garbage anywhere on the roads.
Why can’t the place be as clean all year round as it is now?

The best Chinese food to be had in Patna is in Yo China. While the quality of food may not be spectacular and the ambience Fast-food-joint like, at least it is fairly good and consistent.
For North Indian fare the best bet is the restaurant in Hotel Maurya ( no relation to this website ) although it is seriously overpriced . Chanakya is another option but the service there leaves much to be desired most of the time.
Smoking Joe’s is good for Pizza and if you want burgers, pizzas or sizzlers you could try Fire & Ice in Hathwa Twin Tower although the place is best avoided during weekends.
