Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Posted on Monday, November 9, 2009 in Movies

“How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d

If you live on the planet earth, chances are that you have seen Jim Carey in a goofball comedy making funny faces and you haven’t liked it. However, sometimes people can do  just one thing that n erases all their sins , past and future . For Carey, acting in the movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ” was it.
If you were to only see one move about Happiness in Our Lives, the let it be this one. By the end of the movie, you will be a different person, I promise you.

Jeevan Ki Aapadhapi Me by Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan

जीवन की आपाधापी में कब वक़्त मिला
कुछ देर कहीं पर बैठ कभी यह सोच सकूँ
जो किया, कहा, माना उसमें क्या बुरा भला।

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, topaz

Posted on Monday, July 20, 2009 in Poems

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Stop all the clocks, Cut off the telephone :W.H. Auden

Posted on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in Poems

“Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.”

W.H. Auden (1907-1973)

The Coffin Dancer : Nice Thriller Novel

Posted on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in Books

The Coffin Dancer

Curling up with a nice novel is one of the greatest pleasures in life and I am a big fan of the unputdownable category of thriller novels. Lincoln Rhyme is the hero in many of Deaver’s novels. He is the same guy who was also there in “The Bone Collector” which was made into a very successful movie starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. Rhyme is a quadriplegic which means that he does not have the use of any of his limbs and is bed ridden. Why would a thriller writer make his lead protagonist so crippled physically? Because he wants to show us what a brilliant mind the hero has and can solve complex cases using only forensics and his intelligence.One would expect such a thriller to be either too comples and boring in parts but I assure you this book is neither. It is one of the most fast paced thrillers I have read and the twists and the turns are never ending. You will also learn  a lot of new things in Forensics and you will be surprised how much information can be gleaned using them.
You can read detailed reviews here.
Don’t miss it.
